Christine Fischer, Lead Teacher K-8Christine Fischer has been teaching for 30 years in Visalia Unified School District. She received her bachelor’s degree in Child Development and a Multiple Subjects teaching credential from San Diego State University. She was a classroom elementary teacher for 14 years, an early intervention reading teacher and a literacy coach, training teachers in methods of language arts instruction for 3 years. She also has served as a master teacher for student teachers from Fresno Pacific University and CSU Fresno. Mrs. Fischer has been a teacher in the home schooling program for 13 years and was involved in the initial writing of Charter Home School’s Petition and Charter School Implementation Grant. She is active in the Charter School organizations and attended the National Charter School Conferences in Washington DC and Sacramento. She has served as Lead Teacher for the past 10 years.

Maggie Meling, K-8 Maggie Meling graduated from California State University, Fresno with a bachelor’s degree in English. She holds a single subject teaching credential in English, a multiple subject teaching credential, a supplementary authorization in social science, and CLAD certification. Her 32 years of teaching include eleven years as a classroom teacher in middle school and eighteen years as a high school English teacher before joining Charter Home School Academy in 2006. She has taught all levels of English including honors classes, Advanced Placement English Literature, and the AVID program. She was the English department chairperson for six years at Redwood High School and coordinated the WASC accreditation process for RHS in 1995. Since then, she has served on several visiting committees that accredit high schools for the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. She has worked for the AVID Regional Center as a trainer for the tutors who participate in AVID. In addition, she has served as a master teacher for student teachers from Fresno Pacific University, CSU Fresno, and Chapman University.

Steve Rodriguez, K-8 Mr. Rodriguez earned his bachelor’s degree and teaching credential from Fresno Pacific College. This is his 25th year teaching with VUSD and his 10th with CHSA. Prior to his classroom teaching experience, he worked for 3½ years at Tulare Co. Office of Ed.’s outdoor science school, SCICON, where he taught, developed program and curriculum, and supervised and directed the intern staff. He also served as program director and camp director for the Boy Scouts of America/Mt. Whitney Area Council’s summer camp on Huntington Lake for 4 years. He taught for 2 years on the district’s elementary science team; and has been a 4th and 6th grade classroom teacher at Willow Glen, Washington, and Hurley Schools. He has been involved in various professional organizations and has served as a board member and president of Tulare County Reading Council.
