Following are the questions parents most frequently ask us about the school program. E-mail or call us (559 730-7916) if you have more questions.

Can I, as a parent, actually do this?
Yes!
Charter Home School’s credentialed teachers work one-on-one with students and their parents to review assignments and customize the curriculum.  Professional teachers will assist you in curriculum development, record keeping, and identifying and tracking the grade level standards your child needs to learn.

Who is eligible to attend Charter Home School?

Students entering grades K–8, residing throughout Tulare, Kern, and Kings Counties, are eligible to enroll at Charter Home School.

Does enrollment in your program meet my legal requirements for home schooling in California?
Yes.

Is there a fee to enroll in the program?
There are no costs to families in our program. Curriculum materials and on-site extension activities are available to students
of CHSA at no charge.

How does your program work?
We work together with parents to develop an individualized learning plan for your child. Then we meet on a regular basis to support your home schooling efforts.

How will you help me with teaching at home?
We help you select appropriate learning objectives and materials, model teaching techniques for you and perform ongoing assessment of your child's progress.

Where do we start in the curriculum?
Every child learns at a different pace and has different instructional needs.  An appointment will be made for your child(ren) to take an assessment that lets us quickly pinpoint the proficiency level of your child across a range of subjects that correspond with the California State Curriculum Standards.  This provides for more accurate student placement, diagnosis of instructional needs and instructional adjustments, and measurement of student gains across reporting periods.

Will my child receive a report card?

Yes.

Grades K-6 are graded on a 4 point grade level standards system: 1=Below standard, 2=Basic (approaching) standard, 3=Proficient at standard, and 4=Advanced (exceeds) standard.

Grades 7-8 are graded using letter grades based on the following percentages:

A=90-100%, B=80-89%, C=70-79%, D=60-69%, F=0-59%

Academic evaluations include, but are not limited to: Teacher Made Tests, Student Conferences, Oral Reports, Progress/Report Cards, Chapter/Unit Tests, Work Samples, Observations, Portfolios, State Standards Testing, Learning Journals, Presentations, Quizzes, Labs, and Finals.

What does your program offer in the area of curriculum materials?
We provide state adopted materials as well as a variety of other resources: math manipulatives, science equipment, art materials, a school library, instructional videos for parents, and access to the Visalia Learning Center which houses the District Library, offering teachers and parents a collection of over 55,000 instructional materials. Items include books, book kits, audio cassettes and CDs, educational videos, visual displays.  The teacher work center has laminators (25 and 40 inch wide), poster makers, die cuts, and staff to help with bulletin boards.
