Marcus, Eric. What if someone I know is Gay?  306.71/MAR Answers questions young people may have about gay men and women.

Sanchez, Alex. Rainbow Boys. FIC/SAN Three high school seniors, a jock with a girlfriend and an alcoholic father, a closeted gay, and a flamboyant gay rights advocate, struggle with family issues, gay bashers, first sex, and conflicting feelings about each other.

For teachers especially, this site has many resources to create a safe environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people. http://www.glsen.org 

 

Gay-Straight Alliance Network

A youth oriented site that "empowers youth advocates to fight homophobia." http://www.gsanetwork.org 

Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays

This organization is for family members and loved ones of glbtq people. http://www.pflag.org 

Sexual Orientation: Science, Education, and Policy

This site features work by Dr. Gregory Herek, an internationally recognized authority on sexual prejudice (or homophobia), hate crimes, and AIDS stigma. It provides factual information to promote the use of scientific knowledge for education and enlightened public policy related to sexual orientation and HIV/AIDS. http://psychology.ucdavis.edu/rainbow 

National Council of Anti-violence Projects

Based in New York City, this organization serves the larger community through efforts to educate the public about violence directed at or within our communities and to reform government policies and practices affecting lesbian, gay, transgender, bisexual, HIV-positive and other survivors of violence. http://www.avp.org

The Safe Schools Coalition offers resources as a starting point for educators, parents/guardians and youth. http://www.safeschoolscoalition.org 

Southern Poverty Law Center  

A nonprofit organization that combats hate, intolerance and discrimination through education and litigation.  Many free resources for teachers, including videos, posters, and curriculum. http://www.splcenter.org
