At Charter Alternatives, we seek to ensure that every student has the support needed to succeed. Listed below are a number of services and programs that are in place to provide the support students may need.

The school has a peer mediation program that allows student the opportunity to work out conflicts with other students in positive and productive manner.

Academic and personal counseling is important part of school. A mental health counselor will help answer question and meet a wide range of student counseling needs. Also, the school secretary and principal meet with student’s tri-weekly to provide personal counseling as well as information and advice regarding academic and personal issues.

Psychological Services are available for our school psychologist, Roque Guerrero, who meets with students on campus one day a week. Alcohol and drug abuse and family and personal issues are a few of the areas this professional can assist students with.

Our School Nurse, Rosemary Jackson, will be available every Thursday of the week. She provides services in first aid for

injuries and general consultation with students about health related issues. Additionally, our nurse serves as a resource of information about community resources to assist with health related issues.

Our Sheriff Resource Officer, Ben Quintana is assigned to Charter Alternatives through an agreement between the Tulare County Sheriff Department and Visalia Unified School District. He assists in ensuring students safety is provided and is available to take report for consultation regarding law enforcement matters for student, parents and staff.

School Rehabilitation Counselor, Albert Ochoa, is available daily to provide anger and gang counseling service to all students requiring such intervention. The 14 week sessions are conducted by Mr. Ochoa, a trained rehabilitation specialist.
