The Royal Oaks Bears. Royal Oaks Elementary School Visalia, CA

The Library - September 2009

September is
when yellow pencils
in brand-new eraser hats
bravely wait on perfect points-
ready to march across miles of lines
in empty notebooks-
and
September is
when a piece of chalk
skates across the board-
swirling and looping-
until it spells your new teacher’s
name.

Welcome back to a new school year! The Royal Oaks Library will open to student visits the week of September 7, 2009. Be sure to check with your student’s teacher if you are interested in being a library volunteer.

Book a Trip: READ is the library theme this year. Students will experience the world through the many adventures they will discover in a good book. So buckle up and get your ticket to read.

Jon Scieszka is our September author of the month. Math Curse, Tut Tut, The Stinky Cheese man, and Squids will be Squids are just a few of the books that he has written. His books especially encourage boys to read. Check out his guysread.com or jsworldwide.com websites.

Labor Day will be observed on Monday, September 7.  Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15-October 15, 2009. Look for book displays for these September celebrations.

We have many new books in the school library. From the Newbury and Caldecott award winning books, to the California Young Reader Medal Nominees for 2009-2010, there is sure to be a great read for every student.

Check out Mrs. Schepp’s Picks on the library door. Every month I will select a picture, fiction, and non-fiction book to highlight.

Ready, Set, READ!
