Tech Plan Approval

What: The superintend charge to produce a long-range technology planning document coincided with new legislation that required every district to update their technology plan in concert with a new set of criteria. This new plan was to be submitted to the CDE via regional CTAP review. Our plan was drafted in January and submitted to CTAP as a mock review in their reader training venue. The plan was tweaked to better align to state criteria and then submitted to the state department in March. On my birthday, March 29th, I received word that the plan was officially approved by the CDE, the first in Tulare County.

So What: The submission of this artifact is more showing off than an expression of any CPSEL. The area of shared vision does include comment on identifying and addressing any barriers to accomplish the vision. The CDE hurdle was certainly a bar that had to be crossed but it was not the main motivation for this work. Being selected by the region to have our plan read by all of the regional readers for practice was very useful. I received a first hand account of how outside readers would understand the document. It allowed me to clarify many areas so that it read well to a layman.

What's Next: Barriers are the part of any process. Identifying them, planning for their passage, and strategically carrying out this process is something I enjoy as a leader. This experience confirmed in me the ability I have to see such an event through and instilled in me confidence that I am well suited for my job.
