What: I build a web site to support the discussion and decision making of the District Technology Committee. On the site, I posted agendas/minutes of our three meetings, relevant documents shared by committee members, and drafts of the tech plan as it morphed into its final stage. A special computer with a wireless keyboard and wireless mouse and 31" screen was used to display the agenda interactively and capture discussions along the way.
So What: This artifact is significant to the first CPSEL standard in that a leader must "communicate and implement the shared vision so that the entire school community understands the vision." Be posting the ongoing discussion on the Web and announcing this site, we invited the input from all stakeholders more than if we would have published a final document. The Website also served to support a new paradigm in meetings. As the committee met, we used the online agenda in an interactive way. The discussion and decisions that were made along the way were then posted to the agenda during the meeting which in the end become the minutes. Using this format, we in essence transformed the agenda into the minutes. A side benefit to this format was the decrease in paperwork that was produced form the meeting. No agendas or minutes were printed for committee members. It was all online. If a member wanted a copy, they simply printed it out from their own workstation. What's Next: The site served its purpose of supporting the discussion and decision making of the committee. It went on to support the greater community of stakeholders. All TST representatives could review the work and add their comments along the way and even now be able to bring this information down to their sites. Each school principal as well as this site to refer to for district policies and plans on technology. As the plan becomes implemented, the site will be modified to reflect the new policies and changes made from the plan. Updates include the keyboarding taskforce work, the performance assessments of the 5th grade, 7th grade math, and 8th grade science. Other updates include policy updates, useful survey forms, and links to staff development opportunities. |
