What: I invented the Technology Support Team (TST) program four years ago to serve several purposes. In leadership, the vision must be developed and embraced by the entire school/district community. The principal of each school in the district appointed two teachers to represent their school. These representatives formed the TST. Three meetings each year are used to network professionally on current trends in educational technology, review district plans, and to update the district on site needs. On one level, our meetings serve as a staff development time; on another level, I learn about site needs and bring these trends to the district economy. The focus of the 2001-02 year will be on the development of the district technology plan and the development of an active Site Technology Committee to carry the momentum forward to the classroom.
So What: I bring this artifact forward to express the value I see in getting the entire school/district community to embrace the vision. A shared vision does not mean that I share the vision for others to buy, rather it means that the vision that is developed is one developed by all stakeholders. This process is required for true ownership ... and ownership is essential for the culture to change and to be sustained over time. What's Next: As the year progressed, we had many very good discussions on the focus of the technology plan and the pacing of its implementation. I found that site feedback was essential to the clarity of the plan and to its current high energy. Will it be sustained? How can the sites be better supported by district efforts?
